MBCS Executive Director

Additional Information

The Massachusetts Baptist Charitable Society has served American Baptist clergy since 1794 by providing aid to the vulnerable among them and their families. The Society is seeking an Executive Director with strong leadership, administrative, and pastoral care skills, who can work independently and collaboratively with the highly dedicated Executive Committee of the Charitable Society’s Board of Trustees. The individual will report to the Executive Committee. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Administration and Management

  • Evaluate grant applications, communicate with applicants, and present information to the Executive Committee for action.
  • Serve as liaison between the applicants and the Executive Committee.
  • Serve as contact person for all the Society’s grant programs. 
  • Keep accurate records of all requests and grants that are approved by the Society.
  • Visit or call the monthly grantees/applicants, including clergy spouses, and serve as chaplain as necessary.
  • Prepare materials and reports for the annual meeting of the Board of Trustees and partners meeting of The American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts (TABCOM).
  • Work collaboratively with the Society’s Executive Committee in the following ways:
  • Attend all meetings of the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees. Occasionally attend Investment Committee meetings.
  • Create agenda and materials for the Executive Committee meetings in collaboration with the President of the Society.
  • Serve as secretary at meetings of the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees.
  • Work with the Executive Committee to develop policies and procedures for carrying out and improving the grants programs. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Society’s Treasurer.


Outreach and Marketing 

  • Coordinate annual and other fundraising appeals to congregations and individuals regarding gifts and donations to the Society.
  • Develop and implement a communication plan to inform potential applicants about the Society’s grant programs. Work closely with the Executive Committee to maintain and update the Society’s online presence.
  • Create printed materials about the Society’s work and programs.


Relationships with Churches and other Agencies 

  • Work collaboratively with The American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts (TABCOM) and their partner organizations such as the Conference of Baptist Ministers of Massachusetts, retired American Baptist clergy (ABROM), the Northern Baptist Education Society, and Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries. 
  • Represent the Society at meetings such as TABCOM Annual Gathering, MissionWorks and TABCOM partner events.
  • Respond to any other business of the Society as it develops and to other miscellaneous matters that would involve the presence or action of the Executive Committee.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Ordination to Christian ministry with standing in the American Baptist Churches USA.
  • Demonstrated administrative and management experience in a collaborative work environment.
  • Demonstrated success in working with diverse constituents, particularly multi-cultural groups.
  • Experience and knowledge of working with individuals in times of crisis.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and computer skills. 
  • Good financial management skills and an understanding of financial terminology and practice. Experience in using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to use electronic communications, including e-mail, video conferencing, and social media. 
  • Experience working at a regional level with the American Baptist Churches USA.


COMPENSATION:


The Society offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and contributions to the MMBB retirement plan. This position is full-time.  

Yearly cash salary: $70,000
